Recent NTA bulletins have also asked for the candidate's name and the date of the photograph on the photo. If your bulletin asks for it, turn on "Name and date on photo" in ExamPic. Always check the current bulletin on the official site.

How NTA judges the photo

  • Recent passport-style colour photo, looking straight at the camera
  • White background with no shadow
  • Face about 80% of the photo, both ears visible
  • Spectacles only if you wear them regularly
  • No Polaroid, computer-generated, filtered or edited images

Use the same photo you'll use for counselling and admission: JoSAA and colleges compare against it.

Step by step

  1. Take a fresh colour photo against a plain white wall in daylight, looking straight at the camera, with both ears visible.
  2. In ExamPic choose JEE Main → Photograph. The face is framed to about 80% and the "Head size" check confirms it. Tick "Replace background" if the wall looks grey.
  3. If your bulletin asks for it, turn on Name and date on photo and type your name exactly as on the form.
  4. Sign on white paper, not in capital letters, photograph it, and switch to Signature.
  5. Download both together with the Exam kit button and keep the original photo for JoSAA.

Common JEE Main mistakes

  • A photo with a beauty filter or heavy editing. NTA does not accept edited photos.
  • A half-body photo where the face is small. The face should fill most of the frame.
  • Different photos for the January and April sessions. Use the same recent photo for both.
