The short answer
| Item | What RRB asks for |
|---|---|
| Photograph | Captured live with a webcam or phone camera during the application |
| Signature size | JPG, 30–49 KB |
| Signature dimensions | At least 140 × 60 px, signed in a 35 × 20 mm box, scanned at 100 dpi or more |
| Signature style | Black ink, running handwriting, the whole signature visible |
This is how RRB's 2026 applications (NTPC, Group D, ALP, JE, Technician) are described in recent guides. The older rule of uploading a 20–50 KB photo no longer applies to the live capture process. Check your CEN notice and any corrigendum.
Live photo tips
- Stand or sit in front of a plain white or very light wall.
- Wear dark or coloured clothes, not white, so you stand out from the background.
- Keep the camera at eye level, face inside the on-screen frame, eyes open, neutral expression.
- No cap, mask or spectacles. Don't hold up a printed photo or a photo on another screen: that is rejected.
Making a 30–49 KB signature
Most tools aim for "as small as possible", which is the wrong goal here: a 12 KB signature is below RRB's minimum. ExamPic's RRB preset saves the signature at 35 × 20 mm and 200 dpi, and if the file is still under 30 KB it adds blank padding inside the JPG so it reaches the minimum without changing the picture.
- Draw a 35 × 20 mm box on white paper (or just sign normally; you can crop later) and sign inside it with a black pen.
- Photograph it in daylight. Choose Railways (RRB) → Signature in ExamPic.
- Download. The size check should show something between 30 and 49 KB.
Frequently asked questions
Do I upload a photo for RRB NTPC 2026?
No. RRB captures the photo live during the online application. Keep passport-size prints for document verification.
Why must the RRB signature be at least 30 KB?
That is RRB's stated range (30–49 KB). ExamPic pads small files up to the minimum so they are accepted.
Can I wear white clothes for the RRB live photo?
RRB recommends non-white, preferably dark clothes so you stand out against the white background.
